Hotel Review: The Strings by Intercontinental Tokyo

Introduction
The Intercontinental brand has dominant grounds in Japan, with over three properties stretched throughout the area. With the Strings by Intercontinental Tokyo, this 5-star hotel is positioned in a fantastic area for business and family travelers alike. Of the three, this is the best one of them all.
It’s one of the gems that the Intercontinental Group has and will continue to have. With over 206 guest rooms in this upscale Shinagawa location, the rooms are stylish, with free wi-fi and large windows with a fantastic view of Tokyo. This hotel is definitely catered to more corporate and business travelers, but during Golden Week, it seemed like locals like to stay here as well. It’s a great use of IHG points, should you have collected or begun actively begun the IHG points redemption route.

After enjoying a fantastic flight with Singapore Airlines on First Class, we found our Airport Limo Bus, bought our tickets and ventured into Tokyo.
Getting to the hotel is quite easy from Haneda Airport - it’s simply a quick train ride from the airport to Shinigawa Station, and a quick 5-7 minute walk to the hotel. We quickly checked in around 10:00pm at night after arriving from Los Angeles, and got ourselves situated on the executive floor. The decor is elegant and old school - do mind that the outlets are not the usual US three prong, so if you have a charger that requires three prongs, the only one is available in the bathroom.
The Room | The Strings by Intercontinental Tokyo
As with all Japanese rooms based in Tokyo, they aren’t huge, but definitely a great place to be with its location of furniture and designs. We were given pajamas and a lovely anniversary bear that was such a nice touch from management. The views are incredible as well - you can make out such a vast landscape of Tokyo, even on rainy days. There is a floor to ceiling window that looks out towards the station, and is easily closable with the blackout curtains and shades.
Bathroom wise, it was small but relatively useful - our amenities were the classic Agraria lemon scent, which has been around since 2015. There are also a variety of items that some travelers may want. There is a nice bathtub alongside the shower. Shower pressure was strong and we enjoyed the room very much.
Speaking of design, the lobby is one grand place to be. With its sleek, eye-catching atrium and the natural lights floating into the building, it was such a nice place to have breakfast and tea time. With glass walls built into each floor, the area remains quiet even with a busy lunch crowd. Bamboo and other plants decorate the place as well, along with a themed golden Godzilla, which I thought was a pretty cool touch!
Even with the hotel’s location near the busy train station, they were never any noise issues at the hotel. Throughout our stay, we were constantly being greeted and warmly welcomed.
Breakfast | The Strings by Intercontinental Tokyo
We had our breakfast here for both days, and I must say the spread is quite fascinating and delicious! With Japanese breakfast comfort food to Western omelets to your healthy juice bars, the breakfast buffet had it all during our stay. Eating in the lobby while staring at the magnificent design really helped open each day with a new positive mood.
The spread was fantastic, with a mixture of Western and Japanese elements. The pastries and bread selections were hearty, along with a series of juices and coffee choices.

The Strings by the Intercontinental Tokyo is still regarded as one of the best Intercontinental hotel in Tokyo. As a business-oriented hotel, it’s quite great since the speed and efficiency of the service, coupled with the quiet nature of the hotel, makes it incredibly a nice value for a bustling city like Tokyo. Its unbeatable location next to Shinagawa station makes this a top choice for those with IHG points or Platinum/Diamond members looking to visit Japan in the near future.
